Vantai24h – 02/15/2015 - Transport 24h joined in the last year’s charity program called “Warm coats for winter- Den Thang” held by Hanoi’s Club of Backpacking and Kid & Family VTC11. The program happened at Den Thang Village, Bat Xat District, Lao Cai Province.
Coming to Bat Xat District in a day full of dense fog and freezing drizzle, we felt really happy because we could hand winter coats, blanket and presents to local people and children here.
Around 2pm, two 1.25 ton trucks sponsored 100% by Transport 24h reached their destination safely. All donated presents for children included: 287 3-lining jackets with hoods; 287 plastic boots, 300 woolen caps and 600 pairs of socks; 150 blankets; 300 books and 300 notebooks; 100 sticky rice cakes; 10 electric fans; 2 TVs; 2 DVD players; 6 boxes of biscuit and candy, milk and toys; 5 sinks; 3 Aristol 30 liters water heaters along with many old clothes. All the above presents donated by many organizations, individuals, domestic and abroad benefactors were given to Den Thang’s children.
Mr. Trang A Vo, Den Thang’s chairman of People’s Committee told us: “Den Thang Village is the poorest of 5 poor ones in Bat Xat District, Lao Cai Province. Houses here are mostly covered with mud so even inside people could not prevent hoar frost. Path leading to the village is also very bumpy and hard to get over. Most of the children at school age have difficult and impoverished backgrounds. There are 287 children aged from 3 to 5 in the village. They must stay at school for lunch and resting. In winter, most of them do not have warm clothes, socks to wear and school supplies also are insufficient.
Indeed, it was very difficult and dangerous to pass the path leading to Den Thang. There are many muddy roads and crossing streams so we sometimes had to pull the car together at night. Even adults like us felt this was not easy but local children had to pass these roads daily for school. When this thought came to our mind, it became motivation to continue our task to transport all donated things to the final destination with safety and at fastest speed. The distance between Lao Cai City and Den Thang Province is about 60 kilometers and it took us 6 hours to get there. Even at 1pm, the whole village was still covered with dense fog and chilly winds but on the road here, we saw many children with only thin clothes and no socks playing under their porches. Seeing this scene, our team leader ordered us to stop by and take our jackets on their bodies.
Those innocent eyes looked at new clothes excitedly, then waving to us with bright smiles. In thick fog, the main campus loomed ahead our eyes. The local authorities and teachers welcomed us with enthusiasm and warmth, making us very moved. The fact that all donated items arrived safely meant we finished one-third of the work. After lunch, volunteers started preparing 212 gifts, which would hand to children from the village’s 6 schools next morning. At 12pm, despite tiredness, all the members were still busy wrapping gifts because they wanted the morning came faster to bring blankets and jackets to children. Just when they fulfilled their wish, they would take a good sleep.
