In addition, this project also contributes to the traffic connection between HCMC and neighboring areas.
It is known that the Thu Thiem-East-West Highway will be invested with a total investment of 16 trillion dong by the end of 2012. After that, Ho Chi Minh City has built Thu Thiem tunnel to District 2.
In September 2012, the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City held a fee for testing tunnel Thu Thiem in a month. There are an average of 14,700 4-wheel vehicles and 76,700 motorcycles per day. However, after one month of testing fee, this toll station was stopped.

In addition, the City People's Committee at that time also confirmed when the conditions will direct the charge later.
However, spent five years, but this toll station only collects 0 coins. To date, Thu Thiem Toll Plaza is always in the "empty house garden" scene, not active but not dismantled.
Tran Thu Lam, Deputy Director of HoChiMinh City Department of Transport, explained: "Thu Thiem Toll Stations were built to collect fees for maintenance, Maintain this tunnel, not charge a fee to recover the project.
However, in early 2013, when the road maintenance fund was put into operation, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Transport to cancel and stop collecting toll collection stations using land to pay the state budget and repay loans to avoid Overpaid charge.
Thu Thiem fee station built on ODA loans of the Japanese government should be subject to the abolition. Therefore, tunnel maintenance and maintenance will be charged by the Road Maintenance Fund.
