Highway 91C is the main route to ship commodities to Can Tho, Hau Giang, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu with the total length of nearly 150km. The highway runs along the southern bank of Hau River and meets the standard level III of plain road with the average speed of 80km/h. Highway 91C intersects with Highway 91B in Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City, and this is also the starting point of the highway. It then runs through Cai Rang District, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City and Chau Thanh District (Hau Giang Province). After that, Highway 91C goes through four provinces of Soc Trang Province, namely Ke Sach, Long Phu, Tran De and Vinh Chau before reaching the ending point of Bac Lieu City. This is also the final delivery destination when transporting goods from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) to Can Tho, Hau Giang, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu.
Highway 91C was constructed in 2005 and completed in 2011 with 39 crossing bridges in which there are 16 large ones, 23 middle and small ones. According to drivers from the south, despite such a quiet highway, Highway 91C’s road surface quality is not completely smooth, making travelling of vehicles and people difficult. Besides, drivers need to comply with traffic rules and maintain the legal speed to ensure the safety on the route.
Since 2014, there have been potholes and road defects on Highway 91C’s section of Chau Doc City to Long Binh National Border Gate (An Phu). Besides, the road is quite narrow without road markings and signs so drivers need to pay attention when moving on this highway to protect people, vehicles and commodities from potential risks.
After being in use for 5 years, some sections of Highway 91C are deteriorating so it is very necessary to upgrade and renovate it to ensure the safety for people and reduce the traffic pressure of National Route 1A. This will create favorable conditions not only for transporting goods and agricultural products but also for the economic and social development of Can Tho, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu Provinces and the Mekong River Delta.
