The domestic transport journey through Cai Rang, Ninh Kieu, Binh Thuy and O Mon on Highway 91B is only about 16 km long. It takes 1 to 2 hours to deliver commodities in Can Tho City.
It takes at least 3 days and a half to transport goods from Hanoi to Can Tho with two alternative drivers. The route is Hanoi- National Route 1A- Highway 91-Highway 91B, but if the starting point is from Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), there are two options for drivers, namely Route 1A or Ho Chi Minh- Trung Luong Expressway. You will reach Can Tho City after going through My Tho- Tien Giang.
Being dubbed as “the capital city of the south-western Vietnam more than one hundred years ago, Can Tho now is the level-1 city and one of four provinces and cities of the Mekong River Delta Key Economic Zone- the fourth key economic zone of Vietnam. Can Tho has advantages concerning agriculture and aquatic products, as well as geographical position that helps the city develop in areas such as urban infrastructure, traffic infrastructure and so forth. Many drivers from the north wish to visit this beautiful land to broaden their knowledge of local culture. With drivers from the south, each transport journey to Can Tho is a delight because of its mild climate, fine weather and the average temperature of 30oC, which is much more pleasant than the hot climate of HCMC.
Tet Holiday is the time at which Can Tho City become more crowded and bustling than any other time of the year. There are a large number of vehicles transporting agricultural products from Can Tho to provinces and cities around the country, so Highway 91B running through Cai Rang, Ninh Kieu, Binh Thuy, O Mon Districts is also busier. This is a detour to reduce the volume of vehicles running on Highway 91 and in the inner Can Tho City. Most of commodities from An Giang, Kien Giang are transported on Highway 91 and 91B to reach the destination of HCMC. Highway 91B starts from Cai Cui Port (Tan Phu Ward, Cai Rang District) and ends in Phuoc Thoi Ward (O Mon District, Can Tho City). Due to the high numbers of vehicles running on the route, the quality of Highway 91B is deteriorating, leading to a decrease in the traffic safety for people.
It is very important to upgrade and renovate Highway 91B so that commodities of the Mekong River Delta, especially of provinces of An Giang and Kien Giang will be shipped to receivers with fast delivery and efficiency. In 2015, the Minister has approved the project of upgrading Highway 91B to meet standard level III of plain road. In the early of 2016, the Highway has been renovated, and it is expected to finish in June 2016. The use of the new Highway 91B will partly reduce traffic jams on the route, ensuring the traffic safety of people and stimulating business activities of domestic logistics firms.
