Highway 48 runs entirely in Nghe An Province with the starting point at the intersection of Yen Ly (Dien Yen Commune, Dien Chau District). It ends at the border gate of Thong Thu (Thong Thu Commune, Que Phong District). Highway 48 runs from the west to the east with the length of over 160 km. There are five towns located on the route, namely Dien Chau, Thai Hoa, Quy Hop, Quy Chau and Que Phong. Therefore, it is the best route to transport goods from Ha Noi to Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Nghe An.
Trucks start from My Dinh (Hanoi) with the route as follows:
Transporting goods from Hanoi to Hoa Lac: 30km
Transporting goods from Hoa Lac to Xuan Mai: 13 km
Transporting goods from Xuan Mai to Thai Hoa Town: 230k km
Transporting goods from Thai Hoa to Quy Hop, Quy Chau: 42 km
In addition to Ho Chi Minh Road, drivers have other options to choose to reach Quy Hop, Nghe An. It is also recommended to take Route 1A to reduce the travelling time and distance. However, no matter which road you choose, drivers must run on Highway 48. It plays an especially important role in stimulating business activities and exchanges for mountainous districts in western Nghe An such as Nghia Dan, Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Que Phong and Thai Hoa Town. One notice to take when running on this route is to keep your legal speed and go in the right lane.
Driver Duong Minh Thanh, who has witnessed changes to Highway 48 since 2000, said: “In the period 2007-2009, Highway 48 was upgraded and renovated, causing difficulties for travelers to move on this route, especially the section of Nghia Xuan Town (Quy Hop District) to Yen Ly (Dien Chau). However, this also induces some troubles to the newly upgraded route. There are an increasing number of vehicles running on this road, many of which are heavy trucks. This results in the decline in the road surface. It is hoped that in the future, the bad condition will come to an end and the road will be repaired to its original quality”.
To reduce the traffic congestion happening on Highway 48 from Hanoi to Vinh City, the Ministry of Traffic and Transportation has decided to build a crossing bridge connecting Route 1A and Dien Yen Town, Dien Chau District (Nghe An). The construction will partly contribute to the convenient development of commerce and society in the north western Nghe An. Besides, it will also create favorable conditions for transporting goods more smoothly and efficiently. The investment in facilities and means of transportation is vital for firms to meet the demands for commercial exchanges and cooperation between Nghe An Province and other areas in the country, leading to the economic development of Vietnam and Laos through Thong Thu Border Gate (Que Phong, Nghe An).
