Goods transportation from Hanoi to Bac Giang and Lang Son is divided into two parts. The first one is Hanoi – Bac Giang. There are many routes for drivers to choose but they prefer main ones because of their high quality road surface. National Route 1A is the main route to reach Bac Giang City from the inner Hanoi. The total length is about 60 km and it takes more than one hour to reach the destination. This route was upgraded into highway with the maximum speed of 100 km/h. The road is 33 km wide with 4 lanes and 2 lanes for emergency situations. The highway starts from the tollbooth of old Phu Dong Bridge (Gia Lam, Hanoi) and ends at the intersection of National Route 1 with Highway 30. Drivers first run to Vinh Tuy Bridge, then go straight onto the crossing bridge of Vinh Tuy – Highway 5 and turn into Nguyen Van Linh Road. Next, forward to the intersection with Route 1A and reach to Bac Giang. The time for transporting goods from Hanoi to Bac Giang is now reduced by half. It takes about 20 minutes or more to ship goods to Bac Giang, depending on the volume of goods.
The second one is from Bac Giang to Lang Son with the total legnth of over 150 km to the west of Bac Giang. It starts at Bac Giang City and ends at Ban Chat, Binh Xa Commune, Dinh Lap District, Lang Son Province. Highway 31 connects with many highways such as the old and new Highway 1A, Highway 37 at Doi Ngo Town (Luc Nam District), Highway 4B at Dinh Lap Town, Highway 279 at An Chau Town (Son Dong). This route also runs through many western districts of Bac Giang Province such as Son Dong, Luc Ngan, Luc Nam, Lang Giang, Bac Giang Province and Dinh Lap Town (Lang Son Province). It takes about 3 hours to reach Lang Son from Bac Giang.
As Highway 31 is one of many key traffic routes linking Red River Delta with northern provinces, there is an increase in the number of vehicles running on this route, especially heavy trucks. Therefore, the fact that the road quality is deterioating is inevitable. Since 2014, many sections of this route have been renovated and broaden to meet the transport demand, creating the connection between north western area of Bac Giang Province and Bac Giang City, and with north western districts of Lang Son Province to stimulate the development of the two provinces./.
