To ship goods from Hanoi to Kon Tum and other provinces of Central Highlands, many drivers usually choose to drive along Ho Chi Minh Road. In contrast, the route from Kon Tum to Quang Ngai seems to unfamiliar with drivers, especially young ones. Highway 24 is 170 km long, running westward from Quang Ngai to Kon Tum. It has two secondary roads, namely 24A and 24B.
Highway 24 or 24A links the north Central Highlands with the East Sea. The starting point is the intersection of Thach Tru, Duc Lan Commune, Mo Duc District, Quang Ngai Province (the section intersecting with National Route 1A). Then, Highway 24A runs through the following areas: Duc Pho District, Ba To District and Ba To Town, Kon Plong District and Kon Plong Town, Kon Ray District and Dak Rve Town, Kon Tum City and finishes at Thang Loi District (Kon Tum City).
Highway 24B is to the north of Highway 24, running entirely in Quang Ngai Province. It starts at the slope of Quan Com (Son Tinh Town, Son Tinh District) and finishes at Sa Ky Port, Binh Chau Commune, Binh Son District. This was the old 24B but new Highway 24B today consists of 18km of the old one and provincial routes of Son Tinh- Son Ha (Provincial Road 623) and Di Lang- Ba Tieu (Provincial Road 626). This is a route connecting the province’s coastal and mountainous districts according to the project of urban development in Quang Ngai Province in the period 2010- 2015, orientation to 2020.
The Ministry of Traffic and Transportation has invested in upgrading and renovating Highway 24 by governmental bonds. After the construction, the total road surface will be 9m wide with 8m of pavement and 0.5 m of each side’s margin. The project will be finished in the middle of 2016. The completion and usage of Highway 24 will not only create favorable conditions for local traffic but also contribute to the sustainably economic development of Kon Tum and Quang Ngai Province. Thanks to that, logistic companies will receive benefits of time and efficiency when transporting goods along this route./.
