Vantai24h – Date 01/08/2016 – Highway 10 is an intercity road running through 6 provinces and cities of northern coast: Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Nam Binh, Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa.
The old highway 10 intersected with Highway 18 at Bieu Nghi (Minh Thanh District, Quang Yen Town, Quang Ninh Province.) It ran across Rung Ferry Terminal in Nui Deo Town (Thuy Nguyen), then passed Binh Bridge to get into the inner city of Hai Phong, and met new Highway 10 in An Lao Town. The new highway starts at Bi Cho Intersection (Uong Bi City, Quang Ninh Province), then goes through 4 provinces and cities of northern coast and finishes at Tao Xuyen (Thanh Hoa City). Along this route, there are 42 main bridges such as Non Nuoc Bridge, Tan De Bridge, Da Bac Bridge, Quy Cao Bridge, Tien Cuu Bridge…
The length of Highway 10 is 228 km and is divided into some sections as follows:
The section from Bi Cho Intersection (Uong Bi City, Quang Ninh Province) to Nguyen Bridge (Dong Hung District, Thai Binh Province) is 90 km long.
The section from Nguyen Bridge to Nam Ninh City is 31 km long.
The section from Nam Dinh City to Ninh Binh City is 30 km long.
The section from Ninh Binh City to Thanh Hoa City is 70 km long.
Highway 10 is the main route connecting coastal provinces of the north and many important traffic routes such as Highway 5, Highway 37, Highway 39, Highway 21, Hanoi- Hai Phong Expressway. Therefore, for the last few years, the Ministry of Traffic and Transportation has implemented many projects of construction, upgrade and renovation for sections of Highway 10.
As of May 2015, the Ministry of Traffic and Transportation started the project of upgrade for the section of Quan Toan Bridge to Nghin Bridge. This route runs through Hai Phong and Hai Duong Province with the length of 30 km and 4 lanes. The speed limit is 80 km/h in suburban areas and 60km/h in inner city. Nowadays, due to an increase in traffic flow and volume of freight transport, the upgrade of Highway 10 will partly reduce traffic jams and stimulate the economic development.
Before the construction of Tham and But Son Bridge, vehicles must use ferries or bridges to go pass Len and But River and then continue moving on Highway 10. From September 2015, Tham Bridge (Nga Son District) and But Son Bridge (Hoang Xuyen Commune, Hoang Hoa District, Thanh Hoa Province) were put into use, which created favorable conditions for the movement of transport vehicles between northern provinces such as Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa, Nghe An. In addition, it also links northern coastal provinces and the economic zone of Nghi Son, which reduces the volume of traffic on Highway 1 and enhances the efficiency of Highway 10./.
