Vantai24h – Date 12/23/2015 – The use of new highway 5 or Ha Noi- Hai Phong expressway partly contributes to a decrease in high density of vehicles joining the traffic on this route.
Old highway 5 has the total length of 100 km, connecting Ha Noi Capital and three provinces of Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Hai Phong. New highway 5 (5B) or Hanoi – Hai Phong Expressway was officially put into use on December 5, 2015. The fastest way to reach Dinh Vu Port is to follow Hanoi- Hai Phong Expressway. Trucks pass Vinh Tuy Bridge, then get to Tranh Tri Bridge and join into the expressway for 100 km to reach Dinh Vu. The completion of a huge number of expressways makes it necessary for drivers to learn how to drive safely on highways. Driver Ha Van Toan would like to share with his colleagues some experiences and skills as follows:
Throughout the journey, drivers always need to control the speed and keep the safe distance with front and behind vehicles. If it rains, it is recommended to raise the distance, decline the speed especially when facing with hazardous curves. In general, when the driving conditions are no longer suitable, we should decrease the speed, maybe from 100 km/h to 70 or 80 km/h.
Drivers should observe carefully car mirrors and other components of cars. Many novice drivers only pay attention to front vehicles but two car sides so they do not even know when their vehicles get out of the right lanes. When changing lanes, check your mirrors for a space in traffic where you can enter safely. Check your blind spot by looking over your shoulder in the direction of the lane change. Be especially careful to check for bicycles and other small vehicles. Signal that you want to move left or right by using car indicators.
Toan tells us: “I have seen many coach drivers going on highways very recklessly so I usually let them go first to ensure the safety for myself and other people”. Moreover, be careful to perform activities when driving such as adjust air-conditioning, music or answer mobile phones. Do not let anything distracting you from driving because going with high speed makes accidents more likely to happen. Toan remembered a situation where he was so absorbed in the conversation with his customer that he drove faster than the limited speed, then he immediately changed the speed back to normal.
Due to many secondary roads leading to Hanoi- Hai Phong expressway, many drivers usually mistake the right direction when driving on this route for the first time. Hanoi- Hai Phong Expressway has 6 intersections:
1. First intersection: Ring road III – Hanoi
2. Intersection of Highway 39 (Km 21 500) – Hung Yen
3. Intersection of Highway 38B (Km 49 600) – Hai Duong
4. Intersection of Highway 10 (Km 74 000) – Hai Phong
5. Intersection of Duong Tinh 353 (Km 95 500) – Hai Phong
6. Final intersection: Duong Tinh 356 – Dinh Vu (Hai Phong)
According to Toan, for the first driving highway, drivers should pay attention to traffic signs or asks for directions from local people and veteran drivers in order not to be lost, time-consuming and pay for additional expenses.
