Vantai24 – Date 11/27/2015 - The long transport journey from Hanoi to Soc Trang always requires drivers to control vehicles at night. Some of the following tips would help you to be more confident on dark roads.
The first thing to keep in mind is to check your car before setting off. Keep cars’ outside and inside windows clear at all time. Dirty windows will deter you from full visibility. It can be explained that when it is dark, car windows with specks of dust will reflect lights from other vehicles on the other side of the road, meaning that driver may find it difficult to run their cars. Secondly, you need to control the level of light in cars’ cabins. Remember to turn off any lights in cabins and reduce light of instrument panels to the extent at which you can easily read information on panels. Do not forget to fix the position of headlights according to cars’ weight.

Another problem many drivers concern is the misuse of car headlights when driving at night. When driving on unlit roads and no other traffic can be seen ahead of you, you should turn your headlights on full beam. If you see a vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist approaching you must turn the headlights to dip in order not to cause ant discomforts to other road users coming from the other side of the road. Therefore, it is necessary for drivers to learn how to use headlights in the right way. Tran Van Tung, a driver of Transport 24h Co.Ltd said: “On a straight level road, when I see another vehicle approaching, I will turn my headlights to dip a second after they are able to see me. This shows them that I have gone onto dip, and may remind them to do the same. However, there are still some people who continue turn their lights right in front of my face and after they passed by, my vision was almost lost in a few seconds. In the first time this happened, I felt very nervous and frightened. I did not know what to do except opening my eyes as large as possible. Then, I was taught by the company’s veteran drivers that at that time it was better to drive near the right corner of the road and try not to look at the approaching headlights. Thanks to that, your vision will gradually recover”.
One experience from skillful drivers is to follow a front car with the minimal distance of 50 meters, especially on narrow and mountainous roads. With roads which are too dark for drivers to observe, they should turn the headlights one or two times. Hung said: “Drivers will sometimes encounter dark roads with no street lights so drivers may face to the blind point created by cars from the opposite side or by your cars themselves. Therefore, you should keep the suitable level of headlights to realize in time people or objects on the road”.
From some experience Transport 24h Co.Ltd shared above, we hope that drivers will find them helpful for their driving skills in long distance journeys across Vietnam./.
