Vantai24h – Date 11/23/2015 – The transporting distance from Hanoi to Ha Nam is just about 60 kilometers so box trucks of 1.25 tons are usually put in use because of the full guarantee and easy preservation of goods in the process of transport.
The full dimensions of box trucks of 1.25 tons are 5.1 meters long, 1.75 meters wide and 1.97 meters high. This type of truck is only suitable for consignments which are under 3.1 meters high, 1.65 meters wide and 0.38 meters high. These trucks are specially designed to ship fragile and carefully packed to protect them from rainy weather. 1.25 ton trucks of ideal length are especially convenient to drive on city streets and get into narrow alleys.

Drivers often share a special skill with each other to manipulate trucks in narrow alleys. This technique is known as “forward with back, backward with body”. According to their explanation, the back here is the truck body which is opposite the turning direction and the body is in the same direction with the turning direction. It can be explained more easily that you need to let the truck head follow closely the outer curve for moving forward and let the truck do the same thing with the inner curve when moving backward. Nguyen Manh Cuong told me about a situation he witnessed in which his coworker moved the truck backward and turned into quite a small gate but he forgot the soft skill which his driving teaches had taught and only observed the right side of truck body. As the result, the left side crashed against the gate.

Cuong also told that most of his driving experience is learned from practical situations. On his first day of driving, he had to transport goods from Hanoi to Binh Luc, Ha Nam, which is an area of food crops with high yield cultivation. The village road was quite large with the two sides of rice paddy fields. After unloading goods, his fellow driver started controlling the truck to get back to Hanoi by turning on the right under paddy fields. Cuong was frightened by this action but after that, he figured out this was the technique of “forward with back, backward with body”. Since that day, Cuong realized the importance of hands-on lessons. Academic knowledge is the foundation to accumulate information of rules, driving techniques and valuable driving experience./.
