Vantai24h – Date 10/20/2015 – Receiving the manager’s order to ship cargos from Hanoi to Ha Tinh, Hoang Van Hung quickly switched on the car engine to start a new working day. After putting his foot on the clutch, getting into gears but the car did not move, Hung checked and found out one of two rear wheels stayed unmoving.
Immediately, Hung called the company’s technical specialist and notified him about his situation. Hung also said he just had his car washed the day before and the car was still in good conditions. After washing, he took the car home for one night and this symptom appeared the next morning. According to Hung’s descriptions of the car’s situation, the company’s technician guessed that his car brake locked up. The technician recommended Hung to fix the problem by instructing him to start the engine and moved into gears. At that time, the car would shake and he had to change to the low gear immediately. Hung repeated the process several times and the car started moving slowly. The fixing process only took about 5 minutes and thanks to that, Hung could continue his shipment to Ha Tinh.

According to the technician’s explanation, Hung realized that the main reason for this problem is that after having the car washed, Hung did not leave the car’ brake pad dry and pulled the handbrake so soon that the car brake locked up. If this situation did not occur frequently, it is not necessary to bring the car to the mechanic. However, in reality many drivers have to face to this problem. One of the causes is that during the operation, drivers usually use the technique of trail braking. Each time you trail the brake, there is something like powder generated inside the brake. Combing with other environmental factors such as dust, this powder is often located in the gap between the brake pad and drum brake. When Hung’s car was washed, water came into the brake is absorbed by the powder to create a sticky substance, which will make the brake pad stick to the drum brake. Another possibility is that after washing, Hung did not let the brake pad dry and pull the brake so soon that the wet pad was squeezed into the drum brake, causing this problem. At this time, the driver should brake the car lightly to dry the brake pads before parking, or not pull brakes when they are still wet. For vehicles not being elapsed, the best method is set to reverse, if accidentally lock braking, the driver can handle by starting the engine, clutch and brake until the car releases brakes as Hung did.
The above is just one of many situations of locking brake many drivers usually encounter. Minor problems like Hung’s can easily handled by drivers. Hung said: “This is such valuable experience to me. Thanks to that, I learn some simple tips which not only accumulate my driving skills but I also can share with my colleagues so that we can exchange and learn from each other to ensure shipping journeys with the optimal efficiency and safety”.
