Vantai24h - 07/04/2015 - Vu Van Huy, a driver of Transport 24h told: “My daughter’ age is the same as the time for which I have drove long distances from Hanoi to Quang Binh, Quang Tri to ship goods.”
After the cargo shipment from Hanoi to Quang Binh, Quanrg Tri lasting for 3 days, Huy returned to Hanoi on the Monday morning. He said: “I took a 4 hour sleep, then I wake my lovely daughter up. When still sleepy, she hugged me and whispered into my ears: “Are you tired, daddy? I miss you so much.” I feel so moved by her affection for me. Even that I am usually away from home but she still gives me warm feelings, sympathy and understanding”.
Monday mornings with Huy is so strange with its peacefulness, no hustle with work. He takes his families to eat breakfast, then rides her daughter to school and his wife to work. Just such small things but they mean so much to him because the limited time he has for the family due to his hard work. There are some weeks for which he goes to work when his daughter is still on bed and once he gets home, she has slept. Huy shares with us: “The high cost of living and better quality of life always put a strain on drivers like me. In the busy life, time for family to gather is always interrupted. However, I am so lucky to have a wonderful family which is the motivation to help me overcome difficulties and struggle.”
“11 years has passed like a wind. My daughter, who was an infant that day, now has grown up. She just finished the primary school and will go on to secondary school soon. I still remember the first days when she was born, that time was also when I started working on cargo shipment from Hanoi to Quang Binh, Quang Tri. I was the only breadwinners of the family, so even when my wife gave birth, I could not stay beside to take care of her and our baby. We had to rely on my parents. Once I had to drive early, I did the laundry, cooked the pork leg porridge for my wife. After that, I set off to work.”, Huy told us.
I asked him: “After a long time as a long-distance driver, when you feel exhausted, miss your family, how do you do to overcome that feelings?”. A second after my question, he show a picture from his wallet and told me it was the best medicine for him. The picture of his family members who were all smiling makes the surroundings so small. He continued: “Thanks to the progress in technologies, people now feel closer although they live far apart from each other. I always feel I am still at home even when I must drive for a week. I try to take advantage of the rest time on the road to call for my family. I can see their face through the phone camera, listen to my daughter’s sweet voice and see her innocent, lovely smile. She tells me to drive safely and get back soon to her. It is the true happiness with me.”
The long distance between Hanoi and Quang Binh, Quang Tri is not enough to create a gap of people’s feelings. Huy’s eyes sparkled with hopes when he said about his future aims. “When my children grow up, I will tell them about experience and feelings I have about this route so they will realize how important they are to their parents”./.
